DIY Grey and White Crochet Knit Fair Isle Modern Baby Blanket

Gray and White Modern Baby Blanket

I cannot wait to give this little blanket to my friend! It was so much fun to make and it is so soft and cuddly! And bonus, this is a great beginner project!

I love making people gifts! Love Love Love IT!!! So naturally I decided to make a baby blanket for my friend since it could be used for a functional purpose or a simple decoration. Double function!

I chose gray and white to match their nursery plans and since they are not finding out the gender of the baby it needed to be gender neutral. I love how this turned out and now that I know how to do it I could make different color versions for other friends really easily! I wouldn’t mind having an adult sized one either!

Materials
2 skeins white (or color of your preference) (I used “I love This Yarn Chunky” from Hobby Lobby in Sand Frost)
2 skeins Gray (or color of your preference) (I used “I love This Yarn Chunky” from Hobby Lobby in Pearl Gray)

The first thing that I did was to chain 88 loops, this will be the width of your project. Then I switched to using the granite stitch and used it for the rest of the project.

I switched between white and gray yarn throughout the project which looks really cool when you are using the granite stitch because the stitch gives the blanket a very chunky look! Using my plan above, I started at the bottom, switching being gray and white to give the blanket a gradient effect.

I don’t know if this is the official way to do it BUT to switch colors, I switched before the last chain 2 at the end of the row and then tied the new color to the old color (see picture below) then resumed my crocheting. To hide the tail of the yarn I crocheted with the tail of the yarn on top of the previous row. For another (perhaps better) technique in changing the yarn color watch this video!

At the end of the project I ended up using whatever was left of both of my colors so that I could make the blanket as big as possible. Then I put the blanket in the dryer for about 30 minutes to take out some of the stiffness and now it is super soft and cuddly and ready to keep a little baby warm!

Questions are more than welcome in the comments if you have any! Happy Crocheting!

Hi Brianna! I want to say it ended up being about 2 feet x 3 feet but I’m not really sure and I don’t have the blanket anymore to measure. If you know what size you are aiming for though you can change the pattern to match your needs. To change the width increase the amount of stitches in your original chain and to increase the length add more rows in the last color block, or throughout the pattern if you are increasing the length by a lot. Hope this helps!
